I was walking down the street to the beat of the drum
Balloons in the sky flashing lights in the front
Costumes that dazzle and sparkle and shine
Squeaky clean cars in a perfectly straight line
Candy being thrown landing in open hands
People shouting as they lay eyes on the towns marching band
There was joy and laughter and kindness everywhere
There was peace and harmony until something different filled the air
Now you’re pouring all over my pretty parade
The chants and cheering begin to fade
The day is ruined but I’ve always loved the rain
When you’re hungry enough you’ll eat the pain
I close my eyes and look up to the clouds
The drops fall on my face weighing me down
The crowd disappears with their murmurs of accusations
‘Even the queen has fallen under his temptation’
They had such high hopes for my exquisite event
Just to watch me allow a storm to roll in over head
I would try to explain ‘I swear he’s the one’
But there is no excuse he just uses me till he’s done
You’re pouring all over my pretty parade
I broke up the formation for a man who’s never stayed
I robbed them of their fun and wrecked their exciting plans
Because what if this time he does what he says he can
Lighting strikes and illuminates our surroundings
Thunder roars and my head is pounding
But I have always been intrigued by a tense atmosphere
When you’re dying of thirst you’ll drink the fear
They say it seems I choose to feel this way
But it's less of a choice and more of game
A game he invented and forced me to play
One that changes rules with every move I make
It is possible I am in love with the inventor of my ache
But how do you leave someone who’s seen you in your most vulnerable state
You’re pouring all over my pretty parade
Me the victim you the killer could we possibly trade
I let them down every single time
I can’t blame them for their disappointment never seeing the end of the line
I could remain numb and maybe someday I’d heal
Or I could I let your lighting strike me just so I can feel
I am my own worst enemy
Oh how I wish I’d set me free
Locked in my own cage, holding my own key
Blocking the entrance with altered perceptions of reality
You’re pouring all over my pretty parade
My precious project I’ve been organizing for days
I hold my hopes and dreams and you spit in their face
When I ask for an explanation you call me insane
Can’t you see what I’ve given up just to be where you are
I left the music and the dancing I lowered the bar
The streamers are damp and strung across the ground
No song or laughter can easily be found
The bubble gum has melted in the middle of the street
Their signs are soggy and hanging in defeat
The color has been drained, trampled under your darkness
All because the queen chose to be selfish and thoughtless
You’re pouring all over my pretty parade
I hope we’re both happy with the choices that we’ve made
Now you’re the one who wears the crown
And I’ll always be the one who let them down
Love,
Side Chick
